Thoughts and highlights - Regrets? Not for Me
A girl with long brown hair and large silver ring earrings. She has a little smile and stands near the sea with the sunset.

I was totally stunned when I learned that experts estimate that the human brain processes an average of 60,000 thoughts per day. This is incredible, but even more surprising is that 90% of those 60,000 thoughts are recurring thoughts that already appeared and reappeared during previous days and weeks.

The 100 billion neurons in the brain create pathways that reinforce all those thoughts more and more each time they surface. I will come back to this subject in more depth, but for now, let me just tell you that I have personally experienced and verified that it is indeed possible to control and have a huge deal of agency over our thoughts.

We also know from research that when a thought or group of thoughts associated with the same topic is present in the brain, it will have a ripple effect of sorts and create “associative thoughts.” So imagine that your brain is like a beautiful forest, but when toxic weeds (negative thoughts, regrets, etc.) appear and are allowed to proliferate, they will. Soon the wonderful forest will morph into a bleak landscape with dead trees, water from the lakes will evaporate, animal species will go extinct, and much work will be required to bring life back to the forest.

On the contrary, if you learn to take care of the forest by relentlessly treating and eradicating toxic weeds, nourishing the soil with great nutrients, and providing water and light, the forest will flourish, more and more incredible trees and all sorts of magnificent animal species will thrive! Indeed, the positive, constructive, and even dreamy thoughts that you will maintain and take care of will make even more remarkable and fantastic ideas appear, transforming into projects, unexpected encounters, and accomplishments. Before long, you will not even recognize your life. You will be living in symbiosis with the most positive aspects of yourself. I was astonished when I started to apply that to my life, and I hope you will also use this wisdom in your life!

There is a catch though... To be able to apply this, you can't have repressed negativity and untreated traumas messing around in the forest. The foundational soil has to be the cleanest as possible; that's why if you need more insights about this specific process, please read the original article, Regrets? Not for me.

And this brings me to think about the power of acceptance. Acceptance is an incredible power for a human being, which is certainly why we repeatedly find this concept among ideologies and philosophies such as Buddhism and Stoicism; for example, we also find the idea again in psychology at the base of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). And why is it so powerful? Beyond the fact that we have to accept the past or what is currently happening to handle whatever we currently have going on and ultimately heal, it also frees the mind from a massive amount of clutter and recurring thoughts, which means that we now have more room and therefore more energy for thinking and innovative problem-solving.

We will come back to these subjects, which I find absolutely fascinating. In the meantime, I hope this article conveys enough for anyone willing to start applying some of those concepts. I hope to see you guys soon, somewhere in the forest.

Thanks for your time, and if you haven't read it yet, I encourage you to read the original article that you can find on my website or on Medium (Regrets? Not for me).

I hope and have faith that those thoughts, highlights, and articles will help improve your life tremendously; we will rise together to live this life without limits.
